Send clipboard text
Two paired devices can pass clipboard text to each other. Sending is on by default for every paired device. Receiving is off by default, per device, and you turn it on yourself: a device that sends you text can put anything into your clipboard, so you decide whose text you accept.
Turn on receiving #
On the device that should receive text from a paired device, allow it:
easysync peer policy <peer> --clip-receive on
<peer> is the name of the other device, an alias you gave it, or the start of its peer id (at least six characters). easysync peer list shows them. The setting is per device and is stored on the receiving device. To stop receiving again, use --clip-receive off. To stop sending text to a device, use --clip-send off.
Send text #
On the sending device:
easysync clip copy "text to send"
The text goes to every connected device that accepts it. To send it to one device only, add --to:
easysync clip copy "text to send" --to <peer>
The text must fit the size limit of the receiving device, which is 256 KiB unless it was changed. A longer text is skipped for that device.
Receive text #
With the desktop app, a received text is written to the clipboard of the device and a notification gives the length of the text and, unless show_source_device is off, the name of the device it came from, never the text itself. A command-line daemon without a desktop session has no clipboard to write to. There you read the latest received text yourself:
easysync clip paste
Good to know #
- Text is not kept for devices that are off. A device that was offline when you copied does not get the text afterwards, unless you turned on the setting
deliver_latest_on_reconnect, which then delivers only the latest text and only within a short time. - Text that the application marked as concealed, for example by a password manager, on systems that offer such a marker, is not reported to easysync and so is not sent. This is not a protection for passwords: easysync does not guess which text is sensitive.
easysync config set clipboard_sync offstops all clipboard sync on this device.
